Bradley University, MM 444: Field Research in Virtual Worlds
Below, you will find assignment reports and, at the end of the course, a research report written by undergraduate students in "MM 444: Field Research in Virtual Worlds" at Bradley University.
These students are learning to use qualitative research methods to explore communities of practice in Second Life. This term we are studying communities of practice interested in Geisha in Second Life. Their web logs are linked below.
In the interests of reciprocity, we are sharing class progress with the Second Life community. Please wander through the site at your leisure, and take a look at the student's materials. We would love to hear your constructive feedback; student emails are listed on each blog; the instructor is Ed Lamoureux <ell@bradley.edu>.
The blog tracks their progress for the purposes of observation, supervision, and as way to return knowledge to the communities of practice they work with.
Gritty details about course mechanics and pedagogical premises are elaborated elsewhere, including documentation of our informed consent and subject permission practices. This project has been reviewed and approved by the Committee on the Use of Human Subjects in Research (CUHSR) (Documentation on request for study--CUHSR 04e-09. We want to express our deepest gratitude to everyone who helped us out along the way. Thank you.
